About this opportunity
Zipline designs, builds and operates the world's largest autonomous drone logistics system. This Spring 2027 embedded software internship is onsite in South San Francisco and works on real-time firmware and a new perception system.
Responsibilities
- Develop firmware for a real-time coprocessor that manages high-frequency signals and I/O expansion for the Linux camera subsystem, owning system design and validating signal integrity, jitter and clock alignment.
- Rapidly iterate on a new perception system, integrating compute modules and sensor prototypes to fly a proof of concept and de-risk key aspects of the approach.

Qualifications and requirements
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering, having completed at least the second year of undergraduate study; master's and PhD students are also eligible.
- Have designed, built or deployed electromechanical systems or robots, inside or outside the classroom.
- Comfortable in one of C, C++, Python or Rust, with software developed for a real-time operating system or embedded Linux.
- Comfortable receiving feedback in order to write efficient, well-tested, readable code.
- Familiar with basic electrical engineering concepts such as reading schematics, oscilloscope debugging and protocols like CAN, SPI and UART.
