Responsibilities
- Design and build agentic systems using models, tools, orchestration, retrieval, state, memory, evaluation and human oversight
- Develop context and knowledge systems using retrieval-augmented generation, graph-based retrieval and repository understanding
- Work directly in strategic customer environments to turn ambiguous needs into working solutions
- Contribute production-quality changes across the GitLab Duo Agent Platform and the broader product
- Diagnose failures across models, context, retrieval, tool use, control flow and permissions
Qualifications and requirements
- Staff-level software engineering experience building and improving complex production systems
- Hands-on experience designing substantive AI systems, with the ability to evaluate, trace and debug them
- Strong understanding of how agentic systems use models, context, retrieval, tools and evaluation
- Strong programming skills in Python, TypeScript, Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, Ruby or C#
- Ability to learn and contribute across large, mature, polyglot codebases
